I have written an urban fantasy novel, and I’m looking for a full book cover (front, back, and spine). This book is intended to be the first of the series, so there may be an opportunity for more business down the road.
The title of the novel is “Hazardous Goods”. My intention is to publish the book as both an ebook and in print in September. The target audience is adults and teens (think Jim Butcher).
About my book (this will be the blurb for the back cover):
Hazardous Goods is an urban fantasy novel about Donnie Elder and his job at Arcane Transport, a specialty courier for some very strange customers. Donnie never imagined himself in the delivery business. But he’s been out of work and his mother is calling twice a day, so he’ll try anything.
On his first day at work, Donnie gets robbed at gunpoint, and his boss has a heart attack. Now Donnie is running Arcane all by himself, and problems are popping out of the woodwork. The dispatcher is angry at him for an incident involving a spilled love potion. One of the drivers has been cursed. And something is making a noise in the Lost and Found.
What I am looking for:
Book Dimensions: 5.5 inches (W) x 8.5 inches (H) x 0.75 inches (spine)
In terms of deliverables, I would like to see PSD files with unlocked layers, along with a JPG and a PDF of the print edition cover. Full cover image for ebook would be 72 dpi. Full cover image for print would be 300 dpi.
I have some thoughts on potential cover designs, but I am open to any new approaches.
You might consider a delivery package resting on (a) a doorstep; (b) a bench; (c) an empty warehouse floor. Alternatively, it could be an image of Donnie holding out a package - face in shadow, facing the reader (as if delivering it at a front door). I see the background (door, etc.) with a weathered look. Package has a subtle but ominous aura.
Title is “Hazardous Goods”, author is “John A. Mackie”. I would also like to include a sub-title or other reference to “An Arcane Transport Delivery”.
I am looking forward to seeing your designs.
