What's your vision?
I'm looking for a front / spine / back cover design for a journal with question prompts. The book title is "Question of the Day Journal: 365 Days of Questions" and the author is "C.B. Daniels". The book is made up of 365 questions that serve as prompts for short journal entries. Most questions are light hearted with some deeper / personal questions thrown in. I’ve attached a sample of the interior for your reference. I would like the cover to have a relatively clean colorful design. It can be a playful design or it can be more of a clean / bold design. The main book title "Question of the Day Journal" should be easy to read even as a 65x100 icon. It should be eye catching even at a small size. It SHOULDN'T have a solid #ffffff white background. Although an off white background or a solid white background with a border is fine. I just don't want to the cover to blend into the background of websites. The author name doesn't need to be prominently displayed and can even be omitted if you think it will make a better cover. The exact size details are in the "other" section. I've attached a copy of the interior of the book as well as the design element used in the interior. The interior uses Minion Pro as question text and is the main font used. The cover doesn't have to be in these fonts or use the design element from the interior. I just mention them to give you as much information as possible. Use your best judgement as a designer. To get an idea of other books in the category you can look here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/books/4742/ I DON’T want my cover to be too similar / a copy of any of the other books in my category. They are just to give an idea of what industry covers look like. Feel free to be creative in your interpretations of this design brief, I don't have a specific design in mind. I'm just looking for something playful / colorful and eye catching, that will look good on a webpage even at a small size.
Here are some of the technical specs. The book will be an 8 x 10 inch print book. There is a .125 inch bleed. And the spine will be .799 inches. So the width will be about 17.0495 inches and the height will be 10.25 inches. Nothing crucial to the design should be within .25 inches of the trim lines. The book will be printed through Createspace if that helps any. Here is a link to their cover guidelines: https://www.createspace.com/Special/Enterprise/Publisher/submission_guidelines.jsp If you put any text in the spine there must be at least 0.0625" of space between the text and the edge of the spine. The cover should be a 300 DPI Illustrator file. Higher DPI is fine. Please submit the final design on an 18 inch by 12 inch page.
