Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Splash Foundation Limited is Hong Kong’s only charitable organisation that uses swimming to empower and connect under-resourced communities. Bringing together professional and volunteer coaches, we provide an opportunity to learn an important life skill which develops confidence, improves well-being and allows people to flourish both in and out of the water. Our current beneficiary groups include Foreign Domestic Workers and local Hong Kong kids, ages 8-16. Splash’s vision is to create an oasis where people flourish. An oasis is a metaphor for building a community (around a body of water) in the middle of a sometimes harsh desert. It is a shared resource and a meeting place where everyone is equal. It’s a place to get away from the tough realities of the world. A place to learn and have fun. A place to grow and develop.
Giving adults and young people from marginalized and under resourced communities the opportunity to learn how to swim is what we currently do and will continue to do. But why we do it is to provide space for people to learn life skills, gain confidence and self esteem, and feel part of a supportive community. In short, to provide a congenial environment to flourish.

We don't necessarily want our logo to so literally reflect swimming. The story behind Splash is more about the 'ripple affect'. Yes, we teach an important life skill, but the real story is how learning new things/overcoming fears changes people and the community we create for marginalized groups in Hong Kong.
