Wonderhood’s mission is to empower young girls through play and inspire them to become creative thinkers and problem solvers of tomorrow. Wonderhood’s philosophy is to leverage how girls play naturally and use their creativity and imagination to help develop and build self-confidence in important STEM skills. To achieve this, Wonderhood is launching a unique new line of building toys – designed especially with girls in mind. The toys help kids connect with engineering and math concepts naturally through the act of designing and building, and practice problem solving along the way. Beyond just building, kids are engaged with fun characters and a compelling setting for imaginative play. Wonderhood toys are created by two moms and businesswomen who are motivated by having experienced first-hand the lack of toys that reflect how diverse, ambitious, and complex girls are. Wonderhood toys intertwine girls’ interests with different approaches to building and creating, that do not limit a child’s possibilities along traditional gender lines. Wonderhood toys are so compelling because they are based on years of observing children’s play patterns, starting with the founders own children, nieces, and friends. Wonderhood founders talked with child development and STEM experts from around the country, teachers, parents, and kids, to develop products that will meaningfully change the landscape of toy options for young girls. Target Audience: Wonderhood will target girls aged 4-10 and smart, savvy moms and dads and gift-givers. Target parents are typically in their late 20’s to early 40’s, and live in middle and high-income households. They look for high quality toys to engage and entertain their children, primarily online (Amazon.com, Yoyo.com) as well as in local toy stores. Our target parents want to expose their children to a variety of developmentally appropriate toys, and do not want their young daughters to feel pigeon-holed or inundated with just Princess-themed and stereotypical “girly” toys. Target parents are tech-savvy and find new products and parenting information primarily from blogs, websites, and word of mouth.
What's your vision?
We need a new girl character designed to be part of a portfolio of characters that will be included in Wonderhood's new building toy products. The character should be aspirational, fun, modern, and cool, but not goofy. The character should look 10-12 years old. Once we have our contest winner, we also hope to contract with the winner to design 2 more characters. The character should be illustrated in 3 different poses. Illustrations will be used on packaging, in the product insert, on our website, and in other marketing materials. The illustrations should bring the characters to life in a fun, engaging, and modern way. All 2D illustration files will need to be provided in AI, EPS, and JPEG formats. The characters are all from the same little village so the new one should be comparable in style to the figurines that are shown, but should have different ethnicity, colors, poses, clothing, and accessories (avoid small accessories that are separate from the body because these are choke hazards). The character should be relatively comparable in age as well, like a group of friends. If possible, we would also like the character to be developed in 3D and provided as a STEP file so that it can be used by our manufacturer to produce 3D figurines.
The existing characters are provided for background and as a stylistic guide. Brand Color Palette is provided for guidance/background. Product renderings are provided for style reference as well.
