DiegoRojano got their new illustration or graphics by running a design contest:
Create a pop art art piece for Lucha Libre Taco Shop!
Check out DiegoRojano's Illustration or graphics contest…
We are mexican wrestling themed fast casual restaurant located in San Diego, CA. We have a diverse customer based and one of the draws of our loyal and large fan base is our fun and unique decoration at our store(s). This is our first time diving into crowdsourced art work, most of our current art work was made or procured by ourselves, and this could be the first of many future projects for the right artist.
What's your vision?
We are needing a pop art piece incorporating cambell soup cans and mexican wrestling. At our first restaurant location we created a Warhol inspired art piece (see attached image of sitting wrestler) that is displayed on our wall. For our new location we would like similarly something that is inspired by Warhol's cambpell soup can art, but that incorporates mexican wrestling, aka: Lucha Libre, and our colors, primarily bright blue and pink with splashes of gold (see our website www.tacosmackdown.com or simply google "lucha libre taco shop" to get a sense of our color pallet and decor).
If the winning design is one piece, the art will eventually be printed into a large size, possibly up to 8 feet by 5 feet on acrylic, so the image needs to be high resolution. We are also open to having multiple smaller pieces side by side in a grid form, similar to Warhol's first piece using cambell soup cans of various flavors side by side (see attached example). The art will be displayed on a bright pink wall similar to our current posting of the Blue Demon inspired Warhol (See attached photo of our wall). If you haven't noticed yet, our look/feel of our restaurant is over the top flashy. One option is to have one or all of the cans crushed (similar to attached crushed can image) by a masked wrestler's hand. If a wrestler is used, an artistic homage to famous wrestler Blue Demon (the one we used for our original art piece) is one option. Another option would be to incorporate the use of a wrestler wearing "our" mask (attached). A color option is to leave the cans in the original red/white colors, but accent the cans with bright pink/blues to tie in our color pallet. Also possible to change the can's colors completely to our pallet, similar to what Warhol did in other pieces (see attached image of colored cans). We are also open the idea of playing with the can's text to incorporate our name, our food items, or other mexican wrestling themed terms/names. NEW NOTE: Thank you for the submitted entries and all the interest. Additional idea, in case it inspires anyone…if you are looking for an alternative to a cambell soup can, an idea is to utilize a mexican product (for example the uploaded image of a Modelo beer can). For those who asked for which menu item is our better selling for changing "tomato soup" for a food item, the "Surfin' California Burrito" by far is our best seller. Thanks again and good luck!!
