"Fruits of Trade" is a card game designed for Ages 12 and up. The game is designed to teach negotiation and dealmaking skills. However, the negotiation process has been simplified so that the there are only five things traded--the fruits of trade: apples, oranges, bananas, pears and grapes.
What's your vision?
I need an illustration that captures the themes of the game. On the one hand, it's a lighthearted game focused on five fruits. On the other hand, it carries a more serious purpose in that it deals in practical elements of business, finance and trade. This illustration will be the starting point from which the other game elements will be derived: the card fronts and backs, the player tokens, the instruction manual and other inserts into the game box. It will likely become the cover of the game box. The illustration must prominent contain the title of the game, "Fruits of Trade". Overall the illustration should be suitable for the game box / packaging. It must tell the "story" of the game. I am not initially looking for all the other elements (game tokens, cards, etc) as part of this contest. I am initially looking for a single illustration that captures the central themes of the game. Once I have that illustration, it's likely that I will separately engage the designer to work on the other elements. That's phase 2. I don't have any fixed dimensions for the game. I am more interested in how well the design captures the theme of the game. Later we will modify it as necessary to fit particular requirements. I will consider pencil sketches first. At this early stage, I am more interested in ideas rather than the final product.
I have this sense that I would like to see a "realistic cartoon." The cartoon suggests that it's a game that's fun to play, while the realism suggests that the game has a more serious purpose. Take a look at the game box for a game like "Ticket to Ride," which I feel captures this blend. Also the box for "Settlers of Catan"
