We have a new web app that needs an image (or set of images) on the home page to clearly communicate the concepts of the app to reduce the learning curve for a new user.
The app is an online video site that shows the best video from all over the web (e.g. Youtube, Vimeo). The content is crowdsourced by our users, so only the best videos are shown in each of our channels (and sub-channels).
The app is a lean-back viewing experience, meaning that users just pick a channel and start watching. The approach is best viewed on an iPad, tablet, or SmartTV, but it can also be a great viewing experience on the desktop as well.
Every user of our system is a curator since we have a LikeMeter that automatically determines if a user likes a video or not. This removes the stress and uncertainty of voting on videos.
Videos are posted to channels by our users, so all the content is user posted and user curated.
The concepts that need to be communicated in the image(s) are:
- Crowdsource Curation - all the content in the channels are crowdsourced by other users.
- Lean-back user experience.
- (optional) Everyone contributes to the curation process with the LikeMeter. If it becomes too difficult to include all the concepts, this one could be excluded.
The site is for women, so it should have a women’s sensibility. An example of this is Pinterest.com.
A very amateurish image is attached to give you an idea, but this image fails to communicate all the concepts.
You can also see a prototype of the site at zulucake.appspot.com.
