The Australia Institute is the country’s most influential progressive think tank. Based in Canberra, it conducts research on a broad range of economic, social and environmental issues in order to inform public debate and bring greater accountability to the democratic process.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
The recent budget saw Australia move towards a more American style of university education. The aim of this graphic is to point out the problems with that.
The graphic has a few different elements to it.
At the top of the graphic is a quote from Christopher Pyne, Minister for Education. The quote should say "We have much to learn about this [“the competitive nature of American tertiary education”] from our friends in the United States.”
Beneath the quote should be a sub heading that says 'The wonders of American tertiary education'.
Beneath this should be a map of America with all the states on it. Coming out of a few key American states should be bubbles. There should be 5 bubbles in total. Please make sure that you don't group all the bubbles together in one place. The 5 bubbles should say:
Tertiary education costs are rising three times faster than inflation.
Undergraduate dropout rates are the second highest in the world.
Of the poorest 20 per cent of students who enrol, less than one in ten completes their degree.
Students with high test scores and low income parents are less likely to complete their degree than students with low test scores but wealthy parents.
The richest 25 per cent of households earn more diplomas than the bottom 75 per cent combined.
Underneath the picture of America should be a smaller image of Australia. Next to it should be text that says:
Pyne’s Plan for McEducation
- Deregulate course fees
- Lower course subsidies
- Increase student debt interest rate
The closing line should say 'Australia doesn't need to be the 51st state'.
