FINRA infographic #1: Making Ends Meet

Accounting & Financial
Story to tell in the infographic
This is the first of 4 infographics around our Foundation's "National Financial Capability" study. One in five Americans struggle to make ends meet. One indicator of stress related to making ends meet includes difficulty in covering monthly expenses and bills. The good news is that in most cases spending can be controlled—and you might even be able to put money away for a rainy day. Please review the attached draft script (DRAFT Episode 1 Making Ends Meet.5.19.docx). It provides the story and gives important context.
Data to include in the infographic
· One in five Americans struggle to make ends meet. · 19% of people surveyed reported spending more money than their income over the previous twelve months. An additional 36% spent equal to their income. · Over a quarter [26%] of respondents said they were behind on medical bills. · And 21% said they paid their mortgage late at least once in the last year. This overdue debt can compound a household’s ability to meet monthly financial obligations. Call to action: "Try this: write down all your expenses and all your income sources this month—and compare the two. If expenses are higher, where can you cut back?"
