August 15, 2017 update: 3 Days added to contest. Go wild and submit whatever you want. If you have any new ideas to try then go for it. Thanks to all finalists.
FINALISTS UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who submitted during the first round. Congratulations to our 6 finalists! Some of you were selected as finalists based only on your design portfolio. Most of the concepts we got in the first round were all almost identical and quite a few were very generic. Which isn't great. So we picked the two we liked best and then the other 4 finalists are based on proven talent. So please submit any other concepts you may have or may think of, because we have not decided on a final design direction yet. Thanks again!
Update 5: Coming down to final hours. If anyone can think of something besides use of hands then please submit before its over! We do like the hands, but also hand logos are everywhere. They are overused in some aspects. The word need is hard to put into visuals, but remember we have two parts to this company. The WORK part this is down and dirty and does hard labor. The HELP part that is "clean and pure" and helping people out. If you can think of a way to play off of that. Please submit whatever you can in these last hours so we may select some finalists to move on. Thank you!
Update 4: Maybe mess around with the EE in the logo. Maybe something can be done with that. Major points for use of negative space or "hidden" elements.
Also, we greatly appreciate all of the submissions and work that you all are doing, but please do not submit the generic looking industry logos that we have been getting. This brand is all about people. Working for people, helping people. The generic logos that any office building could have is not what we are looking for. Looking for something that is personal, that connects with people. Thanks to all!
Update 3: Still over two days left in 1st round. We haven't fully settled for any specific design. Keep coming up with your own creative ideas. What kind of imagery can you come up with that shows something in need. A universal sign for need? Whatever you can dream up we are eager to take a look at. Do NOT have to follow along with what everyone else seems to be doing. Thanks to all who are submitting and keep it up!
Update: Also like what people are doing with the usage of hands/arms to create a letter N, or placing them in the negative space of an N. This is another route to look in to.
Update 2: We are really starting to lean heavily in the way of using a clean square or shape, and then utilizing negative space to create the letter N. Does not have to be hands though! Would also really like for the N to be incorporated into the full word NEED as part of the wordmark. Use strong sharp shapes or squares to create the letters in NEED and use negative space creatively where possible. Everyone is doing great and we thank you all so much!
- Strong rationale: Prove how your design communicates what our brand is and its personality
- Design principles: Prove how your design was carefully designed using the golden ratio, cleverly uses negative space, versatile in applications etc.
Logo types to explore:
- Word mark
- Letter mark
- Brand mark
I'm looking for a letter N or n to be the focal point of the word Need or need. Incorporate the entire word "need" is more preferred to just using the letter N.
Think about Google's logo or Goodwill's logo. The first letter is incorporated into the full name, but it can also be used as a standalone logo. So the N should be incorporated into the full word "need" but can also be used standalone. Thinking about a logo of two people putting their arms around each others back to create the letter n. Person on the left color yellow, person on the right light blue. I prefer logos that are simple, but a bit stylized. I like bold shapes and clean lines. Not a big fan of gradients. I'm attaching images of what I DON'T want the two people in the logo to look like. This is a company that provides paid services, but also uses profits to provide charitable services. It's all about what people need. Either need something from paid work, or need something from charitable help. The people supporting each other with arms around their backs was my best idea, but please if you know of a better representation of the word "need" and people needing something then by all means create the logo you think best fits. If it helps this company has two arms if you will. A working arm that provides paid services, and a helping arm that provides charitable services. The point is that both sides of the company support each other and basically bleed into one another, because working is helping and helping is working. The working portion is yellow, and the helping portion is blue. The words "Work" and "Help" can be incorporated or not. We don't have a slogan, but it may end up being as simple as those two words or something similar. I don't want something that screams in people's faces for attention, but definitely something simple that can stand out on its own and be noticed. We're kind of a mix of gritty and clean. The work part is gritty, the help part is clean.
