Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
United Way of Erie County is very excited by the enthusiasm for the Imagination Library in Erie County. To maximize the impact of the Imagination Library, United Way created a 30-60 minute "Reading Buddies" program that teaches parents and caregivers about the importance of early childhood literacy. Developed for us by local reading specialists, this training provides parents/caregivers with information about behaviors and techniques that they can incorporate into reading time to instill a love of reading in their child.
Children are welcome to come with their parents/caregivers, but will be in a separate supervised area while the adult caregiver training is being provided. The intent of these events is to share with the parents/caregivers simple but proven reading techniques to use with their children that best support literacy, language and vocabulary development. The Reading Buddies will also share how to create follow-up activities that extend children’s learning.
