Mikael V2 got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Game Developer Logo for large Indie Dev Community

Games & Recreational
Large social network of game developers. Will be used on facebook, website.
Other color requirements
I'd like to explore the following colors: Let designers make suggestions: Greens: Growth, harmony and success. Blues: Knowledge, trust, calm and honesty.
We are looking for a fun, creative logo for a large network of game developers. The logo will be used in our facebook groups as well on website and other communication. Since our members are largely individual or smaller groups game developers the logo should have a feel that conveys that. Think words like passion, rebellious, games, fun, 8bit/retro (optional), individual. Love the way the escapists game / font logo is done. Colors and fun are very welcome, but we also need to be able to use a black/white version of the logo. Objects are welcome, but don't use any trademarked items obviously like space invader, pacman and so on. Some previous versions have had game controllers, joysticks, hearts (for passion), crossbones (rebels/individuals). Since its a long name ‘Indie Game Developers’ a version with just ‘indie’ or ‘IGD” might also work, but need a ‘full version’ as well. Lastly we have different groups and concepts on how to customize between these (development, chat, promotion, business and so on) are welcome as part of the submission. Try to keep it relatively simple when possible and not overly complex.
