Life’s Bridges Hawaii, Inc. is multi-faceted in the programs related to death and bereavement. Our core programs are as follows:

BEST
Upon notification of a sudden, traumatic or accidental death on Kauai, the Bridges Emergency Support Team (BEST) is dispatched through the coordinated efforts of the Kauai Police and Fire Departments.
BEST volunteers are trained to meet the special needs of families in crisis by assisting with practical tasks, telephoning family and friends, handling mortuary arrangements, making airline reservations, as well as providing emotional support and helping address the deep grief that arises from such an unexpected death.

TEEN SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS
We have taken an active role in suicide prevention and intervention on Kauai, offering workshops and speaking engagements in an effort to help create a suicide free community. To support these efforts, we have created a youth-base suicide prevention program called KLAS (Kauai Leaders Against Suicide). KLAS is a peer based prevention program that recruits youth leaders who then train other youths in recognizing someone at risk and where to turn for help. We currently host this “club” in two high schools on Kauai.

GOOD GRIEF CLUB
The Good Grief Club is a school based peer support group designed to meet the special needs of bereaved children. The group is a collaborative effort between Life’s bridges and elementary schools around the island. The group provides children through the use of art with information on grief, an understanding of those feelings and tools to help them cope and heal.

BEREAVEMENT CARE
Bereavement care is the foundation of our program at Life’s Bridges Hawaii Inc., and is offered through one on one counseling sessions, intimate support groups, and specialized support groups.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
Through our community outreach program, we strive to educate the community about the powers of grief and the process of healing. Life’s Bridges understands the impact that death has on individuals, families and our community as a whole.

So far I like where the ideas are at, but I'd like to focus less that we are in Hawaii, and more on the bridge. Our emphasis, while depressing, is focusing on taking people from their immediate grief to a place of happiness and coping.
