paxchurch got their new logo design by running a design contest:
We are the oldest new church in town! We need a logo for our inclusive, contemplative, loving community.

Peace. Transformation. Wholeness.
The word pax is Latin for peace. We decided upon it because our patron saint Francis ended his letters with the phrase "Pax et Bonum," which means peace and every good thing. The labyrinth, which we have included examples of in the attachments, is a sacred symbol for us and should be incorporated into design submissions. People who attend Pax are 20-60 year olds living in Boulder County, Colorado - a progressive, outdoor loving, spiritual melting pot on the front range of the Rockies. What makes us different from other churches in the area is that we are focused on contemplative spiritual experiences that transform people at the deepest levels. We welcome and celebrate people of every race, gender and sexual orientation. A number of people who have been hurt and rejected by the church in the past have found healing and a place to belong at Pax. While we are progressive, we value the beauty and rootedness of the liturgy, communion and the creeds of the early/ancient church. Here's more on who we are: Who Are We? People seeking transformation Inclusive & Egalitarian - all people regardless of gender, race, sexuality, spiritual background are welcomed and affirmed Sacramental - We view the physical world as a tangible representation of a spiritual truth or experience. We value the eucharist/communion as a meal of love, forgiveness and acceptance. Who Are We Here For? People hurt/rejected by the church People who are broken All family units What Do We Value? Contemplative spirituality Sacraments Spiritual & transformational experiences Holistic team approaches to ministry
Logo types to explore
The primary symbol that MUST be part of a logo in some way is the classic labyrinth pattern found in the cathedral in Chartres, France. We welcome your artistic creativity with it in this process. We have included numerous representations of the design in the attachments below. The group especially likes the artistic quality of the brown mural with the words it in as the labyrinth itself looks like it has stone in it. We doubt words in the labyrinth would work though. We chose the labyrinth because it is an archetypal symbol of wholeness, has been found in various cultures around the world for thousands of years, is a contemplative exercise and represents the twists, turns, reversals and surprises of a growing, healthy spiritual life. Its circular shape is symbolic of the universe. We are located in Longmont, CO at the base of the Rocky Mountains (especially Long's Peak). Nature is important to everyone who lives here so an organic, artistic feel can be referenced in the logo.
