Sagacious Capital LLC was founded by Lee Meddin, former Deputy Treasurer of IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank. The firm helps clients to manage their wealth by creating global investment portfolios selected to reduce potential downside while still preserving upside. In addition to this prudent focus on risk management, clients are also offered the opportunity to have their investments focused on companies whose values align with their own.
Where the firm differentiates itself from other investment managers is a focus on global diversification, prudent risk management, very high ethical standards, and a highly quantitative approach towards country and security selection. In addition, the ability to have clients concentrate their portfolios in companies whose environmental, social responsibility, and corporate governance goals align with their own is another differentiating factor.
I chose the name “Sagacious” given its meaning:
Definition: having or showing deep understanding and intelligent application of knowledge.
Synonyms: discerning, insightful, perceptive, prudent, wise, sage, sapient
I'd like to find a logo that incorporates all of the above, or at least as much of this as possible. One idea is to incorporate a wise owl into the logo, as I believe this personifies the characteristics of both the word sagacious, as well as my firm. I’ve uploaded a photo of a wise owl that I particularly like (I like both the specific look, and the fact it only shows the face), although I believe the logo would likely be better as a freeform drawing rather than an actual photo. I’ve also uploaded a logo from another investment firm I found online, Soundmark, that uses a drawing of an owl in their logo to give an idea of what I mean by freeform. Although my global experience and global approach to investing is important, and something that I highlight to clients, I’d like to stay away from just having a globe as my logo as this may be seen as imitating my former employer, the World Bank. I’ve included their logos as well so designers know what I don’t want. If I were to somehow incorporate a globe into the logo, I found a logo from a firm called STA that I like and seems to personify the word “analytic”. If I were to go in this direction rather than the owl, or somehow in addition to the owl, I thought it may be possible to play on this to create something resembling a globe, but in an analytic way.
I also did Google image searches on “investment management logo”, “wealth management logo”, and “hedge fund logo” and advise doing the same if you have time. This gives a great idea of what is standard in my industry, as I don’t wish to veer too far from is what considered the norm. Please note, I’m not wed to any of the specific ideas I mentioned above, and remain very open to suggestions, including having a logo that has no image at all, but I hope this background and guidance helps, and very much look forward to seeing what the 99Designs community comes up with. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.
