The application is a simple puzzle game. Think Sudoku meets Sugar Crush. I have made a prototype of the game that is mostly playable, but it is still far from complete and also just consists of placeholder graphics at present. It needs a visual design and appealing consistent look. The general concept is: A grid of 9x9 items, each having a value 1, 2, 3 or 4. You need to make 3 of them either horizontally or vertically add to 10. In practice this just involves matching colors; 2 golds and a green or 2 reds and a gold (and 1's do nothing). It makes it a bit more of a mental challenge than just matching 3 of the same. You get bonus points for chaining multiple matches together. In addition, there are some "powerups" that give you extra abilities. In the screenshots, these are the big blue buttons (currently dynamite, nuke, undo and flip). When a match takes place the blocks explode/implode and disappear. The blocks above fall down to fill the gaps and new blocks fall into the top.
The visual style should be enticing, cute, friendly and fun. Think Sugar Crush, or similar games. The current prototype uses coloured boxes in the puzzle that are numbered 1 to 4, but boxes are pretty boring and something other than a box/square would be preferable if possible. Anything that can be made to look cute and fun, but still represent the numbers 1 to 4 somehow would be good. No need to stick to existing colors, either, etc. The numbers in this game are for practical purposes a minor feature though. They justify the patterns but in practice the player matches colours and/or shapes. The numbers can therefore be minor features of the puzzle pieces, as long as there is some kind of connection with a number. The best thing to do to understand the app is try the early prototype app on an android phone. The game .apk is attached to this brief and can be installed directly to your phone if you enable 3rd party apps. It can also be installed from the Play Store if you register as an alpha test user by going to the google community https://plus.google.com/communities/112825539787068139854 If you have a google account then it only involves clicking a single button. Any problems running the app, I'm happy to help. Screenshots are also in the accompanying zip file, which should help to understand the concept without installing the app. The most important one is "screenshots/game.png" I suppose. It's a very simple structure. Currently there are 3 screens; the main menu screen, the level explorer, and the game screen. You go from the main menu screen to the level explorer, which lets you choose a game level to play. When you select a game level in the explorer, you play that level. After the game is won/lost you go back to the level explorer and repeat. This app development is a bit of an experiment. I probably can't sensibly justify the cost because the game probably won't recover even close to the costs but I'm intrigued and it might just work out. I am currently just looking for 1 screen at the moment (the game/puzzle screen). If it works out, we can discuss coming up with a splash screen, explorer screen, etc. afterwards. It should be possible to adapt the design to both landscape and portrait. See current prototype screenshots to see how it currently does that (but it doesn't have to work the same way if you have other ideas).
What to avoid
This is a cross-platform app, not a native android app, so android View designs are not needed. I just need the graphics, etc. and will do the layout myself based on the designs. Some of the placeholder images for key game components are a bit small at 128x128px and the final images should probably be at least 256x256 to better support higher resolution devices. There's no need to stick to the existing list of images and sizes from the prototype for the design concept. NOTE: the red "61" in the corner of the prototype screenshot is *not* part of the design. It's a debugging number of (current frames per second).
