99 Designs Project: A poster for the Second Anual UnLonely Film Festival 2018.
About the Festival:
The UnLonely Film Festival 2018 is a project of The Foundation for Art & Healing (beunlonely.org/films) addressing the public health risks of loneliness and isolation and promoting the benefits of creative expression in facing them.
The short films in the festival, (all 35 minutes or less) will be exploring themes of loneliness and isolation, among different kinds of people, in different film genres — narrative, documentary, and even animation.
The Breakthrough Theme:
While loneliness and isolation have existed since humans have, and have often been the subject of art, this is the first film festival to focus on such a theme and we expect the results to be boldly uniting and surprisingly uplifting. So, while the theme may strike one initially as downbeat or depressing, the Festival aims to be anything but:
-the films are diverse and imaginative and inspiring in their scope and artistry;
-the films, showing how so many of us struggle with these challenges, tells viewers they are not alone and in doing so provides comfort and a sense of connection;
-the films illustrate how the experience of creative expression -- making art, sharing stories, even cooking or gardening -- can help us all feel better and find community, too.
-the films will be entertaining, engaging, touching and often filled with humor.
Audience and Demographics:
Because the theme applies universally to the general population, the festival will appeal to a wide audience. Still, as some demographic groups are particularly vulnerable to loneliness and isolation, their situations and stories will be reflected in the programming. These groups include immigrants, the ill, the aging and their caretakers, military veterans, the LGBTQ community, and young adults.
We want to bring folks together to see the festival— whether online - or through screening events in community centers.
The festival will be launched at an event in New York City in May 2018.
Imagery Notes and Suggestions:
Given our themes, some imagery associations to consider are:
-coming out from the shadows into the light and into connection with others
-creativity in many media, forms, genres — from fine arts, dance, to knitting…
-Art design to include the words “The UnLonely Film Festival 2018”
-Art design to include “beunlonely.org/films”
-Primary branding: The Second Annual UnLonely Film Festival
-Secondary branding, small, at the bottom of the poster: Brought to you by the Foundation for Art & Healing (logo)
