Entertainment & The Arts
I create and publish fantasy novels aimed at the young adult to adult market segment of readers.
What's your vision?
I currently have a series of eight related novels published, and will have two more published this year. There is no consistent appearance to the covers I presently have, and I would like to create a uniformity among the looks of these books, with a design that will be satisfactory as both an ebook and a paperback, to help create a brand identity for this series. This design is for the first novel, Visions of Power, about a teenage boy who is given the power to miraculously heal injuries and illnesses. The setting is late medieval/early renaissance. There are four possible scenes that I think would be suitable for cover art: 1) A scene in which the protagonist is standing on a bluff, overlooking a river that is winding through the wilderness. The boy is surrounded by whirling/rotating mists and beams of colored light that he is releasing, and that are climbing into the sky. This scene is the current cover, and is visible at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Visions-Power-Jeffery-Quyle/dp/141965540X 2) A scene in which the boy is standing at the circular door that is an entrance to a vast magical cavern, which has a narrow staircase rising along one side as it rises and disappears in the darkness of the far-off, unseen ceiling, with arcane writing all along the wall the staircase hugs. There is water dripping and flowing in showers and curtains at the entrance where the boy is standing, and he is drenched by the water. 3) The boy and a dark-haired woman are on a crude log raft on a river that is approaching a large renaissance-era city, with warehouse and docks for shipping, a cathedral on a distant bluff overlooking the city, and a palace built on an island in the river farther down stream. 4) The boy and a teenage girl are hiding in a ruined doorframe in a small mountain village hiding from gray-skinned monsters/goblins who are attacking a caravan of horse-drawn wagons in the street outside the doorframe, using swords, clubs and arrows in the attack. I am interested in either/or: 1) a format that can be uniformly used for remaining books in the series, tied together by framing, font, color, etc., or 2) a pictoral style that can be easily replicated for scenes from each of the other novels for their own covers, to be designed soon after this cover. I hope this is sufficient explanation.
The content of the novels is a fantasy series that contains magic, violence and warfare, some romance, and a light Christian theme. The setting is pre-gunpowder, pre-mechanization. The readership is adult and young adult, from teenagers up. The audience is primarily in the United States, with Britain as the second leading market.

Jake is an incredible designer and I can't recommend him strongly enough. I'm confident in saying that if I had gone with anyone else, the cover wouldn't have turned out nearly as well as it did. If you care about the quality of your project and you're looking for the absolute best, look no further.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
