Our major competitors include brands such as Nest, Netgear's Arlo, Canary, and Simplisafe. This box is being designed for the purpose of retail, where we will be sitting on a shelf next to these much better known brands. The challenge is to stand out from these brands and grab the consumer's attention enough to take it away from our competition.
However, we want to do this without being loud in a 'cheap' way - our system is already much more affordable than the competition and we want to make sure we convey this in a way that expresses value and 'more for less' rather than 'less for less'. That is why we would still like to see a modern approach that perhaps uses strong colors and bold text in order to grab attention while staying sophisticated.
We definitely want to see the camera on the front of the package, and the text on the front should be minimal, "less is more."
That being said, we would like to see the following text big and bold on the front: "SEE MORE" and perhaps something like "SEE WHY" with an arrow to direct the consumer to read the supporting statements on the sides or back of the box (which will include our elaborated product features and benefits, tech specs, requirements, etc.). This "SEE MORE" and "SEE WHY" should in addition to a general statement about what the product is, i.e. "Battery-Powered and HD Video Home Security Camera."
Though we have provided suggestions on the messaging, we are still very open to any ideas you may have instead. Additionally, though you will see that we use green and blue on our website currently, we are open to changing these colors if you would advise a different direction.
As you will also see, we have two different products, our indoor camera (white) and our newer weatherproof camera (black) - these products are effectively the same aside from the weatherproofing and you should be prepared to design a different (but similar) box for each of these cameras (not a box that combines both).
