Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We are young professionals and need something blending 'modern, hip, cool' with 'professional and trusted'. We are a small firm doing public accounting (auditing) and various financial consulting engagements. The owners of this firm are fairly young (mid-30’s). We are trying to maintain standards of quality and professionalism that are as good as or better than the big four accounting firms (Ernst & Young, KPMG, Deloitte, PWC), but to operate on a much more down-to-earth level. We want to break away from the traditional ‘stuck up’ stigma associated with accountants, while still maintaining trust and professionalism. We want to truly focus on solving our clients’ problems instead of focusing on ‘chargeable hours’ and ‘the bottom line’ and ‘billings’ like traditional accounting firms do.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
I’m trying to keep an open mind here! I want something that exudes professionalism, but also has a modern ‘in-touch’ feel to it. I don’t want my branding to scream ‘typical accountant’, because that’s not what I am! I’m toying with the idea of something somewhat ‘edgy’, but at the same time I have to maintain that air of ‘professionalism’. My website is bdkandco.com, but don’t copy that look and feel…I just needed something up immediately so I spent an hour throwing together a quick Wordpress site. I plan to update the site after you are done with my stationary design. I don’t have any logo at this point, so feel free to incorporate anything you wish in this regard.
We don’t have a ‘tagline’, but I have been including “Public Accounting and Consulting” as a descriptor along with the “BDK and Company” firm name.
One idea that I saw that is an example of the sort of modern 'edgy' originality that I like is the use of a data matrix (QR code) 'bar code' on a business card...I don't know how this is being used typically right now, but I think it's both functional and cool!
Our clients right now are typically not for profit organizations / municipalities that do not have enough sophisticated finance personnel in place, so we need to be very down-to-earth with them. However, I have also worked with global private banks and hedge funds in the past, so I don’t want to be too down-to-earth and be perceived as too immature or unprofessional.
One phrase that describes my style: simple, but elegant.
