This redesign needs to be a departure from the typical top down approach to web design and information architecture. In its place we will engage the potential customer in all the places that they gather and socialize, research products and read reviews. When they visit the ListenUp.com community from the breadcrumbs we leave in the social net, they will already be familiar with us, a little more trusting of the ListenUp brand and when we offer them the right incentive they will already be involved in our community where it will be natural to make recurring purchases.
The new ListenUp.com persona will revolve around a one-to-one relationship and the new website architecture will support it.
------------------------------
For this design project we want to use text in our output HTML. The new and exciting Typekit font library of 600+ fonts uses simple JavaScript to display any one of these fonts on a web page.
For example, text can be placed on top of the large images we want you to use on the home page in a styled font that is appropriate for the image. Instead of re-doing the image for new promotional text from week to week we can simply updated the HTML.
This new technology allows you the designer to use a collection of sophisticated fonts and font sizes in your design. This should expand your creativity in designing our design pages.
Just watch this 3 minute video and then scan the Font Library on the site to start thinking about how you can use this exciting new technology for our website design.

HOME PAGE
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is too much going on at our current home page. Your design needs to introduce new products, sales and promotions on the site.
Yes I want you to deviate more from our current design! I want the home page to present a clean and focused message. We need to drive for visual impact, yet not look empty and void of substance.
Please design a page focused on three to four promotions so that we can present a more focused message.
Critical components for this page (in small sizes icons/smaller text):
• Store Locations (link to store locations pop up is fine)
• BBB Icon (currently in the upper right hand corner current listenup.com site, move it where you see fit)
• Clearance Sale link/icon
• Catalog and Email sign up link/icon
• Community Site link/icon
• Testimonials,
• Shorter trust statement - under 20 words, Current statement starts as “Locally owned and nationally known since 1972” on www.listenup.com
• Please add our phone number somewhere above the fold, I left this out of the brief (will add this to the brief)
• Bottom footer should include same info as current site www.listenup.com
We want big images on the home page (with image rotation buttons), clean lay navigation inspiration (see navigation requirements later in design brief)
Inspiration

-- lots of white space here, and a good example of how your design might use box and text overlays on top of an image. This is an example where we would like to use the TypeKit fonts to add excitement to our promotions and ease of updating.

PRODUCT LISTINGS PAGE:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are going to use the Amazon WebStore eCommerce tools. Your design layout needs to be similar to the following:
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/video
http://www.timex.com/Women-Shop-Now-Products/b/2223483011
http://www.rcsnet.com/Espresso-Machines-Home-Products/b/2417799011?ie=UTF8&title=Espresso%20Machines

COMMUNITY A/V ROOMS
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There will be a lot going on here, however please control the design in order to reduce the busy look that most forums have.
Software – We will use vBulletin.
Vbulletin sites – most of these sites are using too many plug-ins. We want a straightforward design without a lot of noise. This example is exactly what we are looking for:
http://circle.sewweekly.com/forum -this is an inspiring and simple design
Instead of “Categories”, “Community Hi-Def Rooms”,
Instead of “Sew Weekly Theme”, “The Bachelor Pad Hi-Def Community Room“
FYI –
Example – The Bachelor Pad Hi-Def Community Room
This community room is run by Kenny (ListenUp Resident Expert) who is also a bachelor. He works at the Colorado Springs store. He posts on a regular basis with video, photos and images (all pre-approved by ListenUp marketing staff) of how a bachelor can have the ultimate bachelor pad for :
1. entertaining guests for the basketball playoffs,
2. Snuggle with a movie time with a partner, or
3. Rocking out to the latest Fray album on a Saturday afternoon

Navigation
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. PRIMARY NAV
a. No typical TOP NAV, move the primary navigation to the side of the page.
b. Use Side navigation in your design as the primary navigation and emphasize it as such in the new design with dynamically appearing detailed category navigation.
c. The current primary navigation categories are STORES, DISPLAYS, SPEAKERS, ELECTRONICS, HEADPHONES, DIGITAL MUSIC, ACCESSORIES
Nav Inspiration - http://www.ardenb.com/home.jsp, except more masculine fonts
Inspiration for you: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/04/19/showcase-of-beautiful-vertical-navigation-design
2. MINIMAL ECOMMERCE NAV (usually at top, but you decide):
a. Must include the Amazon WebStore required links WELCOME, (SIGN IN/SIGN OUT), YOUR ACCOUNT, HELP, 0 ITEM(S) IN MY CART, CHECKOUT
b. The search bar should always be located in the top right corner of page
3. BOTTOM NAV:
a. These are the main headings for the bottom navigation items. Please see our current website and develop a bottom navigation that contains all of the sub categories of the main bottom nav categories:
Featured Brands, Stores, Custom, Commercial, Wholesale, About ListenUp, System Portfolio, Support, ListenUp Blog, Search, Clearance
b. Bottom footer should include same info as current site www.listenup.com
c. Inspiration – Bottom Nav

1. For the design you can use any of these large close up images of beautiful receivers, headphones, etc. We have example images here:
www.listenup.com/redesign/refimages

3. COLOR:
Avoid current black, grey background of www.listenup.com, we want to go into a completely new direction.

c. High Income Earners
d. Hobbyists, Audiophiles, Spend extra on quality
