LYNCHBURG MUSIC:: Everything in Music: A Full Service Music Center located in Central Virginia. LynchburgMusic.com does two things: 1) represents the local store which offers instrument sales, trades, repairs, custom builds (guitars), installations, live sound, education, and more. And 2) sells & ships instruments all over the world. LynchburgMusic.com serves everyone for something. The current website reaches the "guitar culture" market, but we want to expand the look & feel to be friendlier to the entire music market - moms and dads buying instruments for their kids, or a high school kid looking for guitar lessons locally. Also local bands, school bands, orchestras, churches who need new sheet music, etc. This site really should look like a mom and pop store and NOT like a big box store, but also professional enough to be credible and trustworthy. The website should FEEL like music.
Many of the current music websites are very boxy, grungy and reach the guitar culture target market. While this is in our target market, this is not our only market and we don't want to be guitar-centric! "Urban" and "folksy" are good, but stay away from grungy and "ripped jeans" or "unfinished" wood kind of look. It should not look alienating. Also, Lynchburg Music store has been around for a long time and is an important, integrated part of the Lynchburg, VA music scene/ local culture. It should immediately give you the impression that it has already constructed it's own culture and you're welcome to come take part in it. We want to have a good mix of both images AND headlines/content. We want to have good color in headers, etc, to create an image-driven feeling without letting pictures over-power the website Tyopgraphy: serif, modern and timeless LOGO: The current logo used on the website is NOT the correct logo, and currently Lynchburg Music is getting their logo re-designed. Please use RED and BLACK as pillar colors and integrate some additional pop colors. I have included a WORKING LOGO to use as a placeholder.
Wireframe here: https://core.jumpchart.com/public/preview/rLSio2h/ 1) Homepage Design HEADER INCLUDES: - Logo - Address & Contact Phone Number -"A Full Service Music Center located in Central Virginia." - Shopping Cart Total (a bar or button that offers a login and shopping cart total) - EASY TO READ menu bar that drops down BODY OF THE PAGE INCLUDES: - Sliding Image with announcements (Could be 2/3 or fit across the entire page) - 4-8 Most popular Products with thumbnail images - list of Clearance Products or categories - Search for Products box - list of all Product Categories - Sidebar is not required but might be helpful, designer should use their ideas on this ----------- 2) Products category page A page to represent a default product page, should include groupings of products by category with featured images, headline, and possibly a short desscription of each product, and a price. Also a "buy now" button for each product MUST INCLUDE: -header & menu the same as the homepage -sidebar
What to avoid
We are not going for a "guitar culture" target market. We do not like the box-trend that is going on with most of the music sites I have seen recently, it is really part of the dirty grunge guitar look and I fear it would isolate some people.
The attached photo of the Lynchburg Music Center store sign is their current logo, it is being re-designed. I have also attached the working re-design that you can use as a placeholder. Also, This site MUST be an SEO-friendly design. While images are extremely important, this site must also offer lots of places for content.
