Ich bin als selfpublisher tätig und suche ein ansprechendes Cover für mein neuestes ... Es geht in die Richtung Schauergeschichte/Horror und ist primär an Leserinnen und Leser ab... Jahren aufwärts ...

What's your vision?

Ich möchte ein Design, welches potenzielle Interessenten dazu bringt, beim Durchstöbern eines Regals oder eines Online-Registers, einen näheren Blick ... Es darf gerne fantasievoll oder auch abstrakt werden, der Bezug zum Inhalt sollte aber noch vorhanden ... Der Titel des Buches "Agoraphobie" und Name des Autors "Mortimer Niels" können auch frei gestaltet werden, so lange man sie noch deutlich lesen ... Passend zur Thematik wäre es optimal, wenn das Cover eine beklemmende Atmosphäre vermitteln wü... Das Design sollte komplett selbst entworfen sein, aslo kein Material dritter ...

Sein Kontakt zur Außenwelt beschrenkt sich auf eine Hand voll Internetbekanntschaften und das Hören, des örtlichen Radiosenders EZY ... Dort häufen sich nach und nach die Berichte, seltsamer Ereignisse und bald darauf sieht er sich umzingelt von ... Es dauert nicht lange, bis er sich gezwungen sieht seiner Angst zu ...

I wanted to create a cinematic layout that screamed historical romance. The woman was photo manipulated to resemble the characteristics of the heroine and the duel scene at the back cover was created out of different stock elements. I also added some aging effects to the title font to make it look more appropriate for this genre and give a more unique feel to the overall layout.

“Help! Ik Verveel Me” (translated from Dutch "Help! I’m bored") is the story about Sarah, an 11 years old girl, and a crazy idea of her parents: a week without a phone. Without it, Sarah doesn't know what to do. But because she is bored, she dreams about so many things and she finds out that a little boredom is not so bad. It makes her creative. The design was made using some of the illustrations of Charmaine Lam, that also appear in the interior of the book. As these illustrations represent drawings as being made by a child, I kept the same style in order to respect the initial vision of the illustrator and the author. I had to dedicate a special attention to all the new elements that were added to the book cover. For that, I followed the same kind of trace and textures of the existing images. However, the colors were slightly intensified to catch the attention of the viewers. The choice of fonts also helped to give a certain “childish style” to the entire design.

This book is about Grayson, a young adult that struggles with drug addiction and his girlfriend, Emily, a recovering alcoholic. Emily takes her sobriety very seriously, while Grayson has not been able to make that commitment yet. Instead of showing the characters, I decided to go for a more symbolic approach, in order to make it different from the common romance books. I used the contrast between cold and warm tones to transmit the concept of “choices” that the characters need to make in their lives. In this design the blue tones represent the sad and numb life of addiction, the struggles and the dramatic consequences… and the yellow/orange tones represent the recovery and the achievement of finally become sober. Grayson is still struggling in a “cold life”, while Emily has already overcome her battle. The orange flower is Emily that blossoms from branches that seem to be almost dry. While Grayson is still the cold reflex in the water of what can become his future.
